Learn how to make this beautiful hair clip using 2-row right angle weave. This hairclip would make nice accessories for little girls. From this tutorial, you will learn right angle weave. Right-angle weave, also called RAW, is one of the easiest stitches to learn. This project uses 2 needles. When two needles are used, it is often called cross-weaving (because the threads cross in opposite directions through the beads).
Right-angle weave is so-named because of the way the beads lie at right angles to one another. It is a very versatile weave and you can use any types or sizes of beads, as well as combinations of beads of different sizes and shapes to create different effects.
Prepare some white and blue glass pearl beads, flower beads, hair clip, needle and nylon thread and let’s start to learn 2-Row Right Angle Weave and make a hair clip.
Step 1: Prepare Your Needles and Thread
Begin by pulling a length of thread approximately 1 meter. Thread a beading needle onto each end of the thread, and fold over the thread tails.
Step 2: Stitch the First Right-Angle Weave Unit
Use one of the needles to pick up bead A, B, A, and slide it to the center of the thread.
With the second needle, pick up one more B. Slide this bead down against the others.
To complete the unit, pass the first needle through last B that you just picked up (with the other needle) and slide it down. Pull both ends of the thread taut at the same time.
Step 3: Stitch the Second Right-Angle Weave Unit
To begin the next unit, pick up A then B with needle on the left and one A with the needle on the right, and slide those beads down against the beadwork.
Then pass needle on your right into the last bead on your left. Be sure to pass though in the opposite direction as the other needle; when you finish, thread should exit both sides of the bead.
Pull both threads taut at the same time.
Step 4: Continue to work on other units.
Repeat step 3.
Stop when you have just one more unit to go before moving up to the last unit row. In the example on the left. There are currently 13 units in the row, but there will be a total of 14 units.
Step 5: Stitch the Last Unit in the First Unit Row
To begin stitching the last unit in the row, use the left needle to pick up 1A, 1B, and the right needle to pick up 1A.
Pass the needle on the left back through the last bead from needle of the right and pull both threads taut. This completes the last unit and positions your needle for the first unit in the next unit row.
Step 6: Stitch the First Unit in the Second Row
Using the needle (upper) and thread that are exiting outward from the edge of the beadwork, pick up 1B, 1A, 1B.Pass the other needle at the bottom into the last bead from the upper needle. You have just formed first unit of the second row.
Step 7: Stitch the Second Unit in the Second Unit Row
Now you are going to weave from the top to bottom. And you will see thread on both right and left sides. Now pass needle on your left into the bead from first row as shown by the arrow.
On your right needle, pick up 1A, 1. Pass the left needle into the last bead from the right needle.
Pull both threads taut. This completes the second right-angle weave unit in the second unit row.
Step 8: Continue Stitching Toward the End of the Second Unit Row
Repeat Step 7 to stitch more units till you reach the end.
To complete the weaving, pass the left needle into the next bead.
Cross or pass both needle into 1A.
Step 9: Tie the weaved beads onto the hair clip with the remaining thread.
Then pass the thread backwards through the beads till you reach the other end. Tie the thread onto the hair clip.
Stick the 2 flower beads onto the weaved beads with super glue E6000.
You are done and you’ll have a cute and pretty hair clip! 🙂
