Beading Basics: Right Angle Weave Beading with Twin Beads

…and we’re back! After the busy Holidays I’m glad that I was able to find time to share another beading tutorial 🙂 Lately, I have been really fond of using Twin Beads. I spend hours experimenting and trying on different techniques to come up with a new beaded jewelry design. A technique that I find easy to follow and can be the starting point to several variations is the Right Angle Weave. Today, it’s beading basics on how to do Right Angle Weave Beading with Twin Beads.

Before we start as you all know twin beads has 2 holes so we’ll try and be clear to which holes you need to pass the thread. We’ll call them inner hole or lower hole and outer hole or upper hole. Let’s start!

Step 1: With your beading thread string 4 twin beads.

Going clockwise, pass the thread into the 1st twin bead.

Pull the thread and there you have it. Your 1st unit of right angle weave. On the image the holes with red circle is your lower or inner hole. Automatically, the other hole will be your upper or outer hole.

Step 2: Say you wanted to link another unit going upward. Pass your thread into the inner  hole of the twin bead you want to link another unit of right angle weave.

…and then do a step-up by making a u-turn and pass the thread into the outer hole of the same twin bead.

Pull the thread and you are ready to link another unit.

Step 3: String 3 twin beads as you already have 1 bead from the previous unit. Weave clockwise and pass the thread into the twin bead where you just came out.

Pull the thread and you’ll have 2 units of right angle weave. If you want to link another unit going upward simply repeat the 3 previous steps.

Say you want to link a unit going sideways, in this case, the right side. If needed, travel through the beads until you come out the bead where you want to link the unit. Do a step-up so your thread is in position to link another unit.

Pick up 3 twin beads and going clockwise pass the thread into the bead where you just came out.

Pull the thread and as you pull pass the thread into the bead you 1st added for this unit. Make a u-turn and do a step-up and continue to pass through the twin bead from the previous unit to connect.

Now pull the thread. There you have it, you’re ready to create another unit again.

Pick up 2 twin beads and weave clockwise.

Pull the thread and there you have it. Link as many units of right angle weave you needed and create a jewelry piece 🙂

Imagine what you can do with Twins Beads and Right Angle Weave. There are so many possible designs that you can create with it like what I did with mine 🙂 I had so much fun creating the bracelet!
