Hello weekend! Like I promised in my post DIY How to Do Beaded Bezels I am going to share how I bezel my cabochon. Finally, I was able to find time to take some shots and draw diagrams so I can share the steps. This is just a quick tutorial, but hopefully, you’ll get the idea how I bezeled my cabochon. So, let’s start.
This is my cabochon and it measures 1 inch x 1.5 inches.
Step 1: Cut an arm span of thread. Leaving at least 5 inches tail slide in 4 x 11/0 seed beads. Pass the thread through the 4 seed beads like shown on the diagram. This is your 1st set of RAW.
Step 2: Slide in 3 seed beads (shown in red) and pass the thread into the three seed beads in opposite direction as that of the your 1st RAW.
Keep adding 3 seed beads and weaving in opposite directions until you reach about the size of your cabochon.
Lay the beads around the cabochon and see if it fits. If it fits then you can connect your RAW and create a circle
Step 4: Let’s say you have weaved all the way around and is ready to connect your RAW your thread should be coming out from the bead shown in red.
Now, depending on how you ended your last RAW, when connecting you can either go clockwise or counter-clockwise. In this diagram I have ended my last RAW in counter-clockwise so I will weave in clockwise direction.
To connect, slide in a bead (shown in red) and pass the thread into the nearest seed bead from the other end (shown in green)
Continue to slide in a bead (shown in red) and pass the thread into the beads shown in green.
Step 5: You need to add rows of RAW to match the height of your cabochon. After connecting, slide in 3 seed beads (shown in green) and weave following the arrows.
Then add 2 seed beads (shown in green) and weave following the arrows.
Slide in 2 seed beads and weave.
Keep weaving until you’ve gone all the way around the RAW. If you need to add another row simply repeat step 5 like what I did with my cabochon.
Try to fit and check.
Step 6: Now you’re ready to do Peyote. Make sure that your thread is coming out of an edge bead shown in orange arrow.
Coming out from the bead shown in orange arrow, slide in a 15/0 seed bead (shown in red circle) and pass the thread into the next bead shown in yellow arrow.
Repeat this step and weave tight until you have gone all the way around your RAW.
Step 7: Now you need to weave the back side to encase – bezel the cabochon. Pass the thread back thru several 11/0 seed beads until you get to the other side.
Repeat Step 6 until you have gone all the way around the cabochon. You may have to weave with the cabochon inside because the beadwork will tighten as you weave and tighten the circle.
If you have to add several rows of Peyote to completely bezel your cabochon simply repeat Step 6 and do the Peyote. In my case, I had 2 rows of Peyote to completely bezel my cabochon. You’re done!
Add a little embellishment, turn your bezeled cabochon into a necklace or a pendant.
